COACHING

At Glenbrook Little Athletics Centre we are lucky to have a team of volunteer coaches assisting our athletes. All club coaches and assistant coaches hold Athletics Australia qualifications or are working towards them.

The coaching team work together with the aim of providing a better experience for athletes. The 2024 team is being led by Stuart Godwin.

If possible and appropriate, the coaches will provide general feedback to athletes during Saturday competition. However as Saturdays can be busy they often won’t be in a position to provide immediate feedback to everyone who needs it, so midweek training is the best place for this to occur.

Weekly Club Coaching
Club coaching is held on Tuesday evenings from 5.30pm during the season and is open to all registered athletes. More details will be available as the season gets closer. This is not a high-performance coaching program, it is about the athletes learning and improving whilst being happy and healthy.

  • Club coaching is a great opportunity to learn the basics of all the events, not just the ones you like best.  We encourage all athletes to try every event as you never know which ones you will be better at as you get older. A good sprinter might make a really good hurdler but won’t know unless they try! You might like discus but be more suited to shot putt as you get older. Doing some sprinting will make you a better distance runner. We encourage athletes to not specialise early. Have a go at everything and find your place as you get older.
  • As with Saturday competition, parents must remain at the oval with their children and help coaches with set up and pack up of training equipment. Many hands make light work. Parents are also encouraged to assist coaches where possible with the management of the participants to maintain the flow of the sessions. If you wish to help, just ask the coaches, they will be grateful for any assistance. You will probably also pick up some cues to help your child on Saturdays.

Any enquiries regarding club coaching should be directed to the Coaching Coordinator, Stuart Godwin on 0401 680 916.

Would you like to be part of the coaching team? Let us know.
